2007 CHSA Finals

The Connecticut Horse Show Association ("CHSA") is pleased to announce a new event for the benefit of CHSA members – The CHSA FINALS.

The CHSA Finals are to provide a year end showcase to encourage and promote interest in the beginner and intermediate classes and/or divisions for the members of CHSA.

The first (we hope of many) CHSA Finals will be held Sunday, September 9, 2007 in conjunction with Mystic Summer Festival, USEF "A" Rated Horse Show at the Mystic Valley Hunt Club, 645 Long Cove Road, Gales Ferry, CT 063335.

Purpose

  • To provide a year end showcase to encourage and promote interest in the beginner and intermediate classes and/or divisions for the members of CHSA.
  • To promote CHSA and the benefits of membership
  • To increase participation at CHSA approved horse shows
  • TO benefit CHSA Scholarship Fund with any surplus funds.

Eligibility

  • Only active CHSA members with current 2007 membership are eligible to participate in the CHSA Finals.
  • Eligible Divisions based on CHSA Year End Award Divisions
  • Exempt Divisions based on CHSA Year End Award Divisions

Qualification

  • Top 20 riders/horses in eligible CHSA Year End Award Divisions qualify and are invited to the CHSA Finals.
  • To be eligible each CHSA Year End Division must have a minimum of 10 riders/horses with each having more than 25 points by the qualifying deadline which is Sunday, August 12, 2007.
    • For example: In the Pre-Children’s Hunter Division, once 10 horses have 25 points or more, that division qualifies for the CHSA Finals.  At the end of the day on Sunday, August 12, 2007 (The last date to qualify), the Top 20 horses with more than 25 points will be invited to the CHSA Finals.  If there are only 12 horses with 25 points or more then only 12 will be invited.

Format

  • Classes will be judged on an open numerical system by two registered USEF judges.
  • Prizes awarded to the top 8 in each class.

USEF Fees

  • The CHSA Finals are held at the Mystic Summer Festival which is a United States Equestrian Federation ("USEF") "A" rated competition.  Therefore, it is necessary to comply with all USEF Equestrian Rules, including Drug Testing and Membership.  Any horse entered in the 2007 CHSA Finals must still pay the USEF Drug Fee of $12.  If you are not a member of USEF, then you must pay the USEF Non Member fee of $20.  If you are not a member of United States Hunter Jumper Association ("USHJA"), then you must pay the USHJA Non Member fee of $20.  Click here for information on becoming a member of USEF and USHJA. 2007 CHSA Show Committee

The Connecticut Horse Show Association ("CHSA") Finals Show Committee is responsible for putting together the 2007 CHSA Finals and is seeking volunteers for each of the committees below.  Please email the appropriate committee member to volunteer or offer your assistance.

2007 CHSA Finals Show Committee – Larry Schwartz – Chairperson

  • Show Management – Larry Schwartz
    • Responsible for show management including show officials, exhibitor invitations, day of show operations, etc.
  • Sponsors – Robin Vinson
    • Responsible for recruiting show sponsors for cash and in-kind donations.
  • Prize and Trophies – Renee Scarpantonio
    • Responsible for trophies, prizes, ribbons, entry gifts thru donation, sponsorship or purchase.
  • Marketing and Program – Deb Krawitz
    • Responsible for the program book including selling ads, laying out and printing.
  • Day of Show Operations –
    • Responsible for coordination at the day of the show. This includes organizing volunteers for non-show management tasks including registration, handing out prizes/ribbons, providing information, and runners for show management.

2007 CHSA Finals Class Format

Classes will be judged on an open numerical system by two registered USEF judges. Prizes awarded to the top 8 in each class. The format for the classes will be as follows:

Pleasure Classic Classes – All horses/ponies will ride in the first round. At least the top 10 riders, if available, will return to compete for a second round. Scores from the first round will be added together with the scores of the second round to determine the placings. If a tie exists for first place only, after the second round, a third round will be held to determine the winner. All other ties will remain tied. [Alternative split if more than 10 riders split into two sections –top 5 in each section goes to second round]

Hunter Classic Classes – All horses/ponies will jump a hunter type course consisting of at least 10 jumps. At least the top 10 riders, if available, will return to compete over a second round. Scores from the first round will be added together with the scores of the second round to determine the placings. If a tie exists for first place only, after the second round, a third round will be held to determine the winner. All other ties will remain tied. No rider may show more than two horses in any one Class.

Equitation Medal Classes –The class consists of two phases. The first phase is shown over a course of not less than ten obstacles. Judges will then select at least ten contestants (if available) to show at a walk, trot, and canter.  The same horse/pony to be shown by the same rider in both phases.
